What types of products exactly stop the formation of acne? Many companies promise you great things if you start to use their acne treatment, but it's important to understand why and how their acne treatment is going to work for you. The best acne treatment for your skin is the acne treatment that solves the problems specific to your type of skin, which differs from person to person.

An acne treatment works in some or all of three ways: by killing off acne bacteria, unclogging pores, or slowing down sebum production. If performed perfectly, these three steps can cure anybody's acne, however currently there is no acne treatment that is perfect. Each acne treatment currently on the market treats a specific type of acne, whether it be cystic, mild, blackheads, or whiteheads, and it does so only for specific skin types. We'll discuss a few types of these effective acne treatments.

Many popular brands today like Proactiv use the ingredient benzoyl peroxide. This chemical is mainly targeted to new acne sufferers, because overuse of this chemical renders it ineffective. With a mild concentration of benzoyl peroxide, acne bacteria in the skin will be killed within a week or two. Dramatic reduction in redness and bacteria is noticed in a very short period of time. However, benzoyl peroxide isn't for everyone. It damages the skin overtime, and it is almost completely useless against severe acne.

Another chemical commonly used is salicylic acid. Like benzoyl peroxide, salicylic acid is only effective for mild to moderate acne, but it works very well. Salicylic acid unclogs pores, and usually a 2.5% to 5% concentration of this chemical is used in the acne treatment. Many newer acne treatments have stopped using benzoyl peroxide, but they continue to use salicylic acid because it isn't that harmful to the skin. By using this chemical to remove dead skin cells, pores can't get clogged, therefore your acne will disappear.

To slow down sebum production, the most common method is the intake of specific pills, particularly B-5 Vitamins, or even Accutane. This process prevents the excess of sebum being delivered to the pores, thus allowing the skin to clear up relatively quickly. This method of acne treatment works for all acne, including severe acne, however blackheads and whiteheads may need to be treated by other means.

There are tons of acne treatments currently on the market, and it would be wise to analyze exactly what your skin needs and purchase your acne treatment based on the facts. Be sure not to fall for false claims, and treat your acne while knowing exactly what the acne treatment you're using is going to do.
