Most of the women during their puberty has to face hormonal acne. During puberty, changes occur in hormones which leads to produce excess sebum oil, results in acne. Cystic acne cannot be hidden by make-up.

Hormonal cystic acne can be treated with over the counter products as well as prescription medications depending upon the person's condition. Most of the over the counter topical products contains benzoyl peroxide for cystic acne. Many creams, lotions, and gels are available. You just have to take some time before take decision.

Accutane for Cystic Hormonal Acne:

Most common cystic acne treatment available is Accutane (isotretinion). This course is completed in 15 to 20 weeks. Accutane reduces the size of oil glands which results in stopping the occurrence in breakouts. But minor breakout come back after a whole course and in very few cases patient has to re-start accutane.

Side Effects:

Accutane has sever side effects specially in women. During this course women should not get pregnant as it may cause sever birth defects in fetus or it increases chances of miscarriage. Thats why during this course doctors gives two types of birth control pills before a month starting this course and after a month ending this course.

Hormonal Treatment for Cystic Acne:

some women do not react to Accutane. For those women dermatologists refers oral contraceptives. These low dose estrogen birth control pills help in balancing hormones in women and reduce breakouts.

Side Effects:

As it is a hormonal treatments it has some minor side effects like breast tenderness, irregular periods and headaches.

Some other treatments are available like intralesional corticosteroid therapy and acne surgery. Both treatments are intense and expensive. These treatments are normally refer for sever cases and in those persons who does not react with usual medicines.

To control cystic hormonal acne, patient should not pick cyst. Effected area should be washed with special cleansers daily. Sufferer should not scrub the cyst. Women should avoid heavy make-up. Before starting any treatment for cystic hormonal acne, one should discuss everything with dermatologist.
